Just hours ago, the US Department of the Interior led by Ryan Zinke decided to allow large scale mining just miles from the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Northeast Minnesota. In December 2016, the agency had decided to not renew leases held by Twin Metals Minnesota citing the potential for irreparable harm to the area.
This is both a shock and a disappointment to everyone involved in fighting against this dangerous precedent that threatens the wildlife area that over 250,000 people visit every year. Becky Rom, director of Save the Boundary Waters has already said the organization will file suit to fight this unfortunate decision. Part of every purchase at Up North supports this organization and the fight to keep the Boundary Waters clean, open, and beautiful for all of us to enjoy.
If you’re outraged by this decision, head over to Save The Boundary Waters and sign their petition, donate, or learn how to get involved (or all 3!). You can also call and/or write to the office of Ryan Zinke to tell him that our National Parks are not for sale.
Head to our store to help us fight for our home (while looking awesome).
